Mini Split Service Areas Across San Diego County
Mesa Mini Split San Diego installs, repairs and maintains mini splits across the City of San Diego and San Diego County west of the mountains. What changes from one address to the next is not the equipment but the rules and the weather around it: which permit office issues the permit, which Title 24 climate zone the house sits in, who supplies the electricity, and whether coastal or historic rules apply. Five areas have their own pages because those differences change the plan. The rest are covered below by name.

Clairemont, Linda Vista and Serra Mesa
Mesa-top neighborhoods inside the City of San Diego, so the City's no-plan combination permit and fee apply, along with the 4-foot side-yard rule for outdoor units. Clairemont Mesa recorded more City approvals mentioning a mini split than any other community plan area in the year to September 2026 (44), a sign of how common ductless retrofits are in its ranch-house streets.

Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Peñasquitos and Mira Mesa
Still the City of San Diego for permits, but Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch and Rancho Peñasquitos sit in climate zone 10 on the CEC map, with hotter summers than the coast and different refrigerant-verification rules for cooling-only systems. Mira Mesa sits closer to the zone line. Sizing follows the inland load, not a coastal rule of thumb.

Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach
South Bay cities with their own building divisions and climate-zone-7 weather close to San Diego's. Chula Vista handles mini split and A/C work as a residential utility permit through its online permit portal; National City and Imperial Beach details are confirmed per address. All three take generation from San Diego Community Power.

La Mesa
Its own city and permit office, with San Diego Community Power generation and a climate-zone-7 centroid, though the hills toward Mount Helix run warmer. Rules and fees are confirmed per address.

Poway
An inland city in climate zone 10 with its own permit office. Poway is not on either community choice program's member list, so generation appears to come from SDG&E itself; check your bill. Inland heat drives the sizing.
City of Poway · climate zone 10 · SDG&E
Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar
North County coastal cities, each with its own permit office. Encinitas takes generation from San Diego Community Power; Solana Beach and Del Mar from Clean Energy Alliance. Salt air and small lots raise the same placement questions covered on the coastal page.

Coronado
A separate city with its own permit office, climate-zone-7 weather and salt air on every side. Like Poway, it is not on either community choice program's list. Outdoor-unit placement and coil protection matter more than capacity here.

Ramona, Spring Valley, Lakeside and other unincorporated areas
Unincorporated communities are permitted by the County of San Diego, which lists online permits for heat pump and A/C repair or replacement and publishes $392 for a mechanical-only permit and $498 with electrical work. Most of these valleys sit in climate zone 10 with colder winter nights than the coast. Mountain and desert backcountry is outside the service area.
